Ep. 13: Write down your blessings

Christa Hutchins is a chemical engineer and project manager in the engineering and construction industry. In addition to her professional career, she also runs a business called "do a new thing," where she assists Christian communicators and coaches in building their business and ministry while juggling various responsibilities such as full-time work, homeschooling, or caregiving.

With the support of her flexible-schedule husband, Christa is able to dedicate time to her side business by being driven to work a few days a week. The comfort of heated seats in the car keeps her calm and cozy during her commute, adding a touch of relaxation to her day.

Having stumbled upon chemical engineering in high school, Christa pursued it in college, intrigued by the combination of chemistry and math. Over time, she discovered her passion for organizing people and projects, which led her to transition into project management.

Christa has amassed over 30 years of experience in the engineering industry, spending 27 of those years at the same company. Recently, she made a career move to better focus on her side business, which has proven to be a fulfilling endeavor that supports her family.

During her empty nest years, Christa felt a calling from God to serve as an online small group leader for Proverbs 31 Ministries. Through this ministry, she discovered her ability to assist creative women with their dreams and plans. It was from this realization that "do a new thing" was born, and Christa has been passionately serving women in this capacity for seven years.

Christa firmly believes in the integration of work and ministry. She sees the opportunity to honor God and serve others by utilizing her professional skills and talents. It is a harmonious balance when one can combine their passions and abilities in both their career and ministry.

Finding harmony between her full-time job and her side business has been crucial for Christa. She has learned that stepping out in faith does not always require quitting one's job. Wisdom and stewardship play a significant role. In her current season of life, she finds contentment in a comfortable role that allows her to make meaningful contributions without the stress of climbing the corporate ladder.

For those who have lofty career aspirations, Christa encourages pursuing excellence and growth in their field while glorifying God. She believes that ambition and the pursuit of success are not contradictory to one's faith. It is about striking the right balance and trusting in God's guidance throughout the journey of one's career.
